Siyabonga Gumede is a trained chemist, who has spent over ten years working in commercial biotechnology at AECI/SA Bioproducts Ltd (Pty), and has lectured undergraduate chemistry for over three years.
His experience in commercial biotechnology was centered on the implementation of bioprocess technology for the production of specialty chemicals such as amino acids. Prior to joining UKZN InQubate, Siya was a bio-entrepreneur, managing his own bioreactor engineering company, consulting to large organisations, including the National Bioproducts Institute and LIFElab.
In 2016, he joined UKZN InQubate as a Principal Innovation Officer: Consultancy, where he is applying his experience and entrepreneurial skills in building the university’s consultancy portfolio.
