IP Policy

“The medieval university looked backwards; it professed to be a storehouse of old knowledge. The modern university looks forward, and is a factory of new knowledge.”

Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895)

Comparative anatomist; known as “Darwin’s Bulldog”

UKZN’s IP and Commercialisation Policy (under revision) is aligned with the Intellectual Property Rights from Publicly Financed Research and Development Act of 2008 (IPR Act) and provides the framework for strategically managing UKZN’s IP. The policy provides clarity for researchers and private companies on IP management and commercialisation. All research contracts relating to IP should abide by the policy.
